headed back from page today
and ran across this at a trading post
between kaibeto and kayenta.

it's actually pretty amazing.
navajo veterans.
there was a huge one of a grandma
on another wall but i couldn't
get it since there was a diesel parked
right in front of it.

so i got to page on thursday evening.
spent half the day sleeping on friday since i had a bad night thursday night.
first of all, we got a room that had two queen beds.
we usually just get a king size bed when we're in a hotel
but they wanted $20 more dollars a night for a king!
so we went with the queens.

i wanted to sleep on the bed that would more
closely resemble out bedroom setup at home.
but john didn't want to sleep in that bed.
instead, he chose the one closest to the cooler/heater.

i had it set just right when we went to sleep
but he got overheated (although i have NO idea why!).
he threw the covers off and turned the cooler on
and set the temp to 68 degrees!!
and then he slept like that for hours!
HOURS i tell you!!

meanwhile,
i'm freezing.
i'm underneath the blankets with
them wrapped around me.
no part of my body exposed except my face.
and he's laying right next to me,
closest to the cooler,
with absolutely no blankets on
and his body was like a furnace!
i snuggle up next to him and it's my body that's cold.

i had freaking cold dreams,
you know,
the kind where even in your dreams your cold.

so i kept waking up.
plus the hotel had a little nightlight by the door
that freaking shined in my face like a spotlight.
aaaaannnnnd,
i was on the wrong side of the bed.

all ended in a bad night.
so i slept most of the day away after johnathan left for work.
then when he gets back,
he has the nerve to say
"i slept so good last night."
i think at one point during the night,
i might have screeched at him
"baby! you're keeping me awake!!!"
but he doesn't remember it so maybe it was wishful thinking.

anyway,
when i finally got up and ready and actually left the hotel,
i headed for the visitors center at glen canyon dam.
it was just right down the road less than a mile from our hotel.
and in case you didn't know,
glen canyon dam is what holds lake powell.

down the river a bit there's a turn off for a scenic view area.
went to it and had to walk down a slight incline to get to it.
i went off the trail a bit and came to this area.

it doesn't look so big in the picture
but it was a massive canyon.
basically cliffs.
where i'm sitting, a few yards in front of my
was a sheer drop off.

i set my camera up and hit the self timer.
seriously, after this picture snapped
i must have sat there for 20 minutes just staring.
it was so beautiful!

so i've officially been on spring break this week.
we were originally suppose to go to vegas this weekend
but john ended up having to work.
boo!

so instead,
i went to page, arizona to spend a few days with him.
this was when i got to the hotel room
and was waiting for him to get off of work.
i was gonna get a picture of something along the way
since it's really a very pretty drive from
shiprock to page but i was too lazy to stop.
i kept saying "on the way back..."

so i spent thursday and friday and came home saturday.
wasn't too bad.
so this is me messing with the camera
waiting for johnathan to get back and take me to dinner.
fyi: page sucks when it comes to restuarants.

i'm helping a friend from school with her senior sem project. she's a psychology major and her project revolves around five concepts that she's having her family embody.

anyway, long story short, we did a shoot with her, her daughter, mother, and grandmother. they came with tons of stuff since each idea was entirely seperate from the other photos.

this photo was one of the concepts but i can't remember which right now. anyway, i love love loooove it!!

i got this for christmas one year from one of my best friends when i was still a teenager.
so much has changed since then. she has her own life and i have mine.
it's funny but we practically lived in each other's pockets
and now we hardly talk.

and in the spring,
i shed my skin and it blows away
with the changing winds

so i never knew that "celestial tea" was made in boulder, colorado. cool little tidbit i just had to share with all of you!

anyway, i've been drinking more tea. i've never been much of a tea drinker. or coffee drinker for that matter. but i've really gotten into tea. who knew there were so many different kinds and flavors?

i never noticed the stuff written on the box though, until last night.

If we are facing in the right direction,
all we have to do is keep walking

i feel like we're finally facing the right direction. it's taken us years to get here, but we're finally here. well, maybe not quite 'here' yet but more in the direction we're suppose to be facing.

i remember when we first were married. it definitely was not all smooth sailing. i know why they say the first two years of marriage is the hardest, and that's probably why so many marriages don't last past those first two years. even though we'd already been together for two years before getting married, those first two years of marriage were definitely tough.

i think of a karen marie moning quote- and i'm paraphrasing here cuz i can't remember exactly which book it was from, one from her fever series though. so many good quotes in those books!- anyway, it was something about how they were like two stones clashing against each other until they smoothed each others rough edges and fit into the other's niches. his strengths to her weaknesses and vice versa. it resonates with me. and as i'm typing this florence + the machines are singing "just keep following the heartlines on your hand..."

and so for now, we're finally walking.

john finally made verity some moccasins.
he got a measurement of her foot at brandin's meet
then came home and promptly started working on them.

we had gotten her a set of beaded barretts last time we were in gallup.
so he made the beading on the moccasins
match the barrett beading.

so brandin's gotten into wrestling.
i think it's so cute!!
we went to one of the meets saturday in bloomfield.
i was surprised by how many people actually were there.
the whole gym was filled
and it was only an elementary/mid school meet.

i'm not sure exactly how wrestling matches work
but brandin only had two matches.
john and i stayed to see the first one
but had to leave afterwards.
it was a good thing that we were warned
that he would probably cry after the match,
especially if he lost.

he got pinned in the first match
and sure enough, he started crying.

i would have started crying, too
just cuz he was if,
like i said,
i hadn't already been warned to expect it.
not cuz he lost
but because he was crying...

it snowed so bad the other day. i woke up and it was white-out outside. we seriously got so much snow that the schools, courts, and gov'ts were called off.

of course, i still had class. and i was really gonna go. really, i was. i barely made it up our hill. had a little bit of trouble at the top- and this was in my tacoma with it in 4wd. granted, my tires are a little bald. made it to the main strip and said "screw that" since the roads looked like they hadn't been plowed.

called my professor and told her i wasn't coming up. lucky for me, my first professor is a really understanding woman. my second class was only handing back exams and wasn't gonna have class anyway. and i dont have my third class on fridays anyway. so it was a snow day for me.

by 4 o'clock in the afternoon, it was all melted!
i can't believe that much snow melted that fast. and it wasn't even that warm outside. there was a cold wind that was freezing the water as it was rushing off the house! now we have nothing left to show for all that snow except some muddy roads.

first of the month for me means self portrait time!
i think what i'm gonna start doing the first of month along with
the self portrait is talking about the month before in summary.
or rather, my thoughts on it.

so february.
it kind of sucked.

it's been more of a waiting game for me.
we've waited so long, years actually,
and now that it was only a few weeks away,
the wait is almost unbearable.

i can't describe it,
but you know what i mean since i know
every one of you has probably felt it-
excitement, nervousness, impatience.
and it just keeps building and building
until you feel like you're gonna burst!

i was walking on campus,
headed back to my car,
when i saw a bunch of birdies
drinking water,
taking a bath,
and whatnot.

i ran back to my car and got my camera,
headed back to that area and bird watched for a while.
it's kind of cool how they have their system set up.
the birds i mean.
they have someone set up in the trees
and when a predator (aka me) gets too close
they sound an alarm.
in fact, they made different squawks
depending on how close i got to the bunch on the ground.
when i got too close,
it was a shrill sound and all the birds fled.

but here's one brave little soul that i was able to get close enough to.

my mom came over and spent the night. for the past few months, she's come over the night before she gets paid and spends the night. the next morning, i run her around so she can do her errands, then we have breakfast before heading back home.

i like the routine alot. gives us a chance to just hang out and spend some time together. this month however, i had class the day she got paid. she still spent the night but we had dinner the night before since i had to leave for class early the morning of.

it's been so cold on campus.
i'm just waiting for spring to arrive.
can't wait for warm weather!!

so, johnathan's been working so much in page, arizona and i know he's sick of that place. he had left for work on tuesday morning, fully expecting to be back home friday evening but then the orders came down that they were gonna be working through the weekend and he wouldn't get home until the following friday.

anyway. i headed out to page that weekend to see him, bring him clean clothes, money, and the like. just spent the night and headed back the next day. that is a loooooong drive. a good four hours from our house to page.

i got this pic about 45 minutes outside of page. after that i picked up a mother and her two kids who were hitch-hiking back to farmington. long story, that. suffice it to say that i cannot imagine my sister leaving me and my kids on the side of the road, a good three hours from our destination, and expect us to hitch-hike back. when it's cold and windy. and my kids are under the age of 10! some people!

i've done one year old photos before but this was the first time that i've done the "cake smash". i was so happy to finally put this idea into action. it's been something that i've been playing around with for a while now but just hadn't had the session to try it out on.

i gotta say that i love how they turned out! there are other pictures of the little one smiling and getting into the cake but we'd been at this part of the session for at least half an hour plus about an hour of regular posed stuff before we got to this. so the little one was kind of over it by the time i took this pic.
